AI-Enhanced Augmented Reality Experience – “Girl at the Well” by Uroš Predić
This project was developed for the exhibition “Artists’ Studios” at the Gallery of Matica
Srpska in Novi Sad, focusing on the use of artificial intelligence and augmented reality in cultural heritage interpretation. It features AI-generated animations based on artworks by Stevan Aleksić and Uroš Predić, presented through immersive AR experiences.
The project combines cultural heritage digitization, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality (AR) to create interactive digital interpretations of historical artworks. Using AI animation techniques, static paintings are transformed into dynamic visual experiences that reveal hidden narratives, symbolism, and emotional depth.
Through AR technology, visitors can simultaneously view the original artwork and its animated interpretation within the reconstructed context of the artist’s studio.
Animation of Uroš Predić – Girl at the Well follows the narrative of a poem by Branko Radičević, uncovering symbolic layers and hidden stories within the artwork. The integration of sound and visual storytelling deepens the emotional engagement of the audience.
The animation of Stevan Aleksić – Self-Portrait in a Tavern subtly brings to life the symbolic figure of Death playing the violin behind the artist, referencing the memento mori theme. The experience is enhanced by the atmosphere inspired by Claude Debussy’s composition Beau Soir, creating a poetic and introspective interpretation.
This project goes beyond technological innovation by enhancing the interpretation of cultural
heritage through subtle and meaningful digital interventions.
It reveals hidden narratives and strengthens the emotional and symbolic connection between visitors and significant works of Serbian art.
